It’s the people who make the list good @Jess Graves @laura reilly @Rachel Seville Tashjian @Derek C. Blasberg — I’m also just here enjoying their content :)
Agreed! Love the suggestions. Am new to substack but would love to connect with anyone analyzing the retail industry, AI in fashion, or retail/CPG/fashion trends. Thanks again for the read!
Another great read is Trademarked (not sure why it’s not @-ing @tariromakoni) and Shop Rat by @emiliapetrarca — I love the way they look at these worlds
Fashion is a world I know nothing about so this was an interesting window into it. The closest I’ve come is a cousin who was a fashion director/editor (whatever that is) at cosmopolitan magazine for some years, but I never really understood what she did. 😅
I try to include a little bit of every thing at different times—my hope is I can touch on all topics on a way that people find interesting (and that includes sailing!)
I can’t add much to the fashion conversation alas 😅 other than to note there seems to be an uptick in small menswear stores/boutiques offering made to measure clothing (and off the rack), and many of them are also on social media doing men’s wear styling. Is that something you have noticed too?
Purple is often associated with royalty. During the Roman Empire only the ruling classes and courtesans could wear a purple border on their capes and tunics, and during the Elizabethan era the Queen's sumptuary laws forbade serfs from wearing it or making clothes using purple dye. Queen Elizabeth II and King Charles both wore purple for the coronations.
That designers are now using it to dress the wives of oligarchs and tech billionaires is super interesting.
Clavicular walked in fashion week?! Lord help us.
I was just as shocked as you were!
I think I like observing NYFW from afar more than I ever did on the ground…! Hope PB was fab
Great list and definitely followed your suggestions. Great share!

No! Which ones are your favorites?

(Associated with shops in Erie & Pittsburgh PA)
Very anecdotal but it feels like fine menswear and made to measure or bespoke is coming back?
Can’t wait to check out the aspiring gent… I was born in Sewickley, PA!
Awesome! His content is fantastic and I would love to visit one of the shops someday. I have friends in Pittsburgh and visit occasionally.
I was afraid you were going to ask me that. 😂😅 Give me a minute to dig through my Instagram and find the ones I’m thinking of.
