I feel like an enormously stodgy WASP saying this, but I just can’t get past the feeling that it’s awfully tasteless to air the dirty laundry of your divorce in public, especially when you have children together, even if you’re the wronged party. Also ironic that Truman Capote was put to social death for exposing BB’s grandfather’s infidelity.

Yes, I am aware that I sound like an 80-year-old woman who owns fish forks and lives in a house with a name.

Also, I don’t know how I didn’t do the Truman Capote roadmap in my head, but you are so so right

I don’t think she’s in the wrong from a moral perspective but if she were my friend I would have told her not to do it, if that makes sense!

I would be having a heart attack from everyone talking about me collectively 😆

Ha, I mean, I don’t even have social media except Substack so same. I feel like privacy is the greatest source of freedom.

It would not be for me personally but she joins a long list of people who have monetized their divorce (and their pain). I would personally rather have my nails peeled off one by one but I barely like people knowing anything about me soooo…

I understand, but the more women who speak out, the more women see that this can happen to them, too. The wasp men have always controlled women by money. The manners around marriage and money are what keep women suffering.

Definitely! And she is a beautiful writer too. (I could write a whole book on that topic too from personal experience 😆)

Maybe we need a support group. I am only sort of kidding.

Carson Griffith's avatar

Maybe we need a whole story just on that!!!

GP is a great choice to play BB. Kate Winslet could also do it well.

I would love this in movie form. Agree re GP!

I went to BB’s book signing in Montecito last Sunday; GP showed and asked a nice question. BB is absolutely lovely, and after meeting her, I understand how courageous and necessary this story is to get on the page.

Carson Griffith's avatar

The rumors could definitely Be true! What was the question?

GP spoke softly from the “VIP section”- she asked about the power dynamics when you choose to be a stay at home mother et al - nothing more memorable - I’m sorry!

No it’s just all so interesting!

Curious to see if the private members club scene in Paris is ready for Pharrell. There are a few, more old money than creative, hence my caution.

The members club scene in Paris is so fascinating to me. The one I went to in June… had reciprocity with the Harvard Club?! Like what?

Have you been to any?

Sarah Bartesaghi Truong's avatar

Yes, a few… Funny because while in the US you have the Ivy League clubs, here we have places like the Cercle Interallié, founded by militaries in 1917, or the Yacht Club, for sailing aficionados. Soho House here suffers the same ailments as everywhere else. Interestingly, the hospitality group Paris Society launched a membership but I’ve yet to look into what it entails…

Carson Griffith's avatar

Those are two very different subsets of people, I feel like!

Sarah Bartesaghi Truong's avatar

Indeed, which means that the two should be able to coexist without cannibalising each other… but then I wonder: why didn’t anyone think of it yet? After all if it’s about creativity and fashion, Paris should have ample choice of bright minds to launch one, and yet…

I talked to a lot of people about members clubs when I was in Paris last June and their take on it was very different than UK and US. I definitely want to explore that market more. This was so helpful…hadn’t heard of some of these?

Sarah Bartesaghi Truong's avatar

The old money ones require being introduced by another member, with a long, long, long waiting list, I’d say more similar to gentlemen’s clubs of yore in the U.K., when your lineage or who you know matters more than your bank account. That is why I’m curious to see if and how Pharrell’s project materialises…
