Long time reader of that subreddit - they give the best career advice and there is a thread about the debasement of the dollar that I have saved to read through where basically they all calmed each other down about the US trade. FatTravel is a fun aspirational read, too - though it's run by a TA.
Ooooh yeah - it's what the trade is called (one of the more dramatic economic terms). Basically one guy was like "yachts are bought in dollars. Why are you worrying about this? Where the eff else would you go?" It makes me laugh and feel less collapse-y every time I read it.
The drama when Fat & Chubby travel forums were splitting because of the dissolution of the business partnership between the two mods was my favorite low stakes drama to follow. I was just sad there weren’t many people i could discuss its absurdity with. I agree though that i gain more value from ChubbyTravel than its FAT counterpart.
I mean . . . People who show up to church aren’t usually summoned to account for their past. If they seek formal membership or leadership that’s a different matter, but it’s pretty profoundly unchristian to say “I don’t want to sit next to that guy because there hasn’t been a public struggle session to expose and condemn his past”.
And naturally you wouldn’t put a guy like that on nursery duty.
I think we reached the point in world history where any levity is very earned at any given time. There's a counterfeit emoji I have on slack that's called "lol sob": basically one side laughing and the other crying streams of tears. I think that one would have been very useful here *lolsob*
“Once work becomes optional, what exactly is worth organizing your life around?”
Oh, I have an answer for that! Racing sailboats! ⛵️😉
Slightly more seriously this is actually an important question for everyone. Multiple generations of my family have been successful entrepreneurs but not all of them were successful in developing hobbies or passions beyond business. Then they sell, or retire, or pass the reigns to the next generation, and suddenly there’s this massive hole where all that energy and identity used to go. You need to connect to something else worth caring about, or you’re left staring at a pretty bleak void.
I don’t use Reddit, but this is extremely legible and so well put: “They were asking how not to make a mistake they could not undo once they got there.”
(I’d also add: making sure my kids learn how to be good stewards of wealth and aren’t distorted by it. Something I think about regularly.)
I’m a member of a few private clubs, and I usually get the sort of advice you described on Reddit from older members-friends or my parents. I wouldn’t have thought to go to an internet forum. 😅🤷♂️
First: thank you for reading! And the compliment. I also think where you are going is probably a BETTER (and more traditional) place to crowd-source, but we’re in a very interesting time in society where people aren’t as connected to their peers! Another thing to think about…
i have not been on reddit in a very long time. but trust me i used to be a very big reddit doom scroller before finding this app. i’ll have to check out this subreddit if i do decide to download the app again. and this was a great post!
Yes, I think this exemplifies the extreme emotions (and actions) the Epstein Files has created in all of us. Not sure if you saw the follow-up to this, but the Church sent out a letter about it because it has been such an issue in this particular church. (I also laughed at your last line, btw).

I am CRYING 😆 the debasement of the dollar?!

Yes those parts of it are what make it epic. I always have wondered why no one has written about it before?
The debasement of Staley as well.
You get it!!!
Chubby Travel is better IMO, though also run by a TA
Alex does a great job, I just find the commenters a little crabbier.
Are you calling me chubby? :( (kidddddingggg)

Love it ! Can’t wait for more! Keep up the good work !
I too am now, very deep in that subreddit!
I also needed some levity today to juxtapose the Epstein story, so Fatfire it was! Haha!

That is so good!!
Wait, there he is! He can be attached!
Nope, I was wrong *lolsob*
But he pops up on google

Ameteur sailor here! I’m here for that. Separately, it is a concept worth exploring further, how to develop a life outside the grind

Ok, you’ve got this old millennial to download Reddit.
I’m SORRY. They are mean on there so don’t stay too long. But this is worth a look!
